Pacific Hills High School – Raise the Roof!

Pacific Hills 5.18.15

Girls Fight Back visited Pacific Hills High School yesterday and they raised the roof with their badass-ness! I love speaking to high school girls because they have such energy and passion about everything…especially in learning how to live fearlessly and recognize creepers! Mr. & Mrs. Wagner, the administrators who invited us, couldn’t have been more welcoming, supportive and thrilled to empower their girls…especially the Seniors heading off to college.

Together we laughed, we realized that our fav pair of heels can be an awesome improvised weapon and we learned that if someone grabs your leg in a fight…just kick ‘em with your other leg! These girls were super engaged and asked awesome questions which I love! And let’s not forget our awesome male volunteer who was a dynamite “creeper” for us and a perfect example of how men and women working together can create change.

Thank you so much Pacific Hills for letting me part of your community for the afternoon! You all seriously rock!

Cheers!

Bay Area Girls are Badass!

Claire Mallet 5.11.15
Want to know what I found out first hand after meeting a sassy group of high school seniors on Monday… Bay Area girls are BADASS! These ladies were so enthusiastic about learning the badass ballet that I had to keep reminding them that this is a no-contact course! Guess that means some local self defense classes are going to have a ton of new sign ups soon..which is awesome! Some of these gals are heading for international trips this summer so we talked about safety & travel tips as well as the standard awesome collection of empowering skills. These ladies are not only ready for college but for the world beyond! And of course a big shout out to the super mom, Claire Mallet, for putting this whole event together. It’s not every day that a group of high school girls get a personalized Girls Fight Back presentation before graduating! Keep on kicking ass and educating yourselves ladies, and thanks for letting me into your “girl group”!

Illinois BYOB Tour – Glenwood, Springfield and Township High Schools!

I just finished my around the world Illinois BYOB tour and I really feel like it was on par with Yonce’s.

In other words, Mayday 2014 was badass and these High School chicks definitely know a thing or two about protecting themselves.

At each GFB event I asked the students what they would want to do if they were standing in front of their home with the key in the door and suddenly spotted Creeper McCreeperson behind them. Usually, most of us want to get inside as quickly as we can, but of the hundreds of students I spoke with NOT ONE suggested that as an option!! These girls, from Chatham to Arlington Heights, already knew that we were going to have to confront Creeper McCreeperson in order to set some serious boundaries for ourselves, and once I gave them a couple easy tools… let me just say, you definitely don’t want to mess with any of these chicks!

Starting my triple-threat Illini BYOB tour at Glenwood High School was incredible. The bleachers were packed bright and early with hundreds of badass chicks who were ready to throw down. I had a blast with everyone and would like to thank Principal Jim Lee, Diana Odin and Luke (the goofiest sbg!) for helping put together this fantastic event!

Springfield, Illinois
Springfield High School students
The Springfield High School Student Council voted to bring GFB to their campus to teach the 9th and 12th grade female students, which proves that when men and women work together to raise awareness about violence against women, we can really make an amazing impact in our communities. I would like to thank the SHS Student Council, Ms. Guerrero, and Cody (our not-so-scary-scary-bad-guy) for this wonderful GFB event!

Aaron went above and beyond – he put together an awesome event for Township High School District 214 and not only is he a veteran SBG, but he also teaches self-defense! This was a special event because we had Moms next to their daughters, all conquering the Badass Ballet together. Reminder: Aaron is teaching a self-defense class on May 18th, which will be a wonderful compliment to the GFB program

Wishing everyone the best!

Glenwood High School Fights Back!

Check out this article and this video in The State Journal-Register about the kickass group of students at Glenwood High School that participated in Morgan’s one day three school adventure!Capture

One Day – Three Schools – GFB Morgan!

GFB Morgan is so excited to be given the opportunity to work with high school students in Illinois next month!  It is so impactful to get the Girls Fight Back message across BEFORE college, as we have witnessed with the many 6-12th graders we have had the pleasure of working with this year!  Morgan will be teaching the terminator tango at three Illinois high schools in one day (Glenwood, Springfield and Township) – go Morgan!  The Chicago Tribune has written this article in praise of the program.  We have had a long history of teaching district 214 to fight like girls, this is our fourth time back in just two years!  Can’t wait!
